EXTRA Stats you need to know

  • Up to 80% of women experience insufficient circulation during pregnancy. This can result in feeling dizzy & tired.
  • About 65% of pregnant women suffer from ankle, leg & feet swelling. Your body is holding more water than usual & extra fluid gathers to your lower legs & feet. It can be worse in summer or you've been standing or sitting a lot. The pressure of your growing womb can also affect the blood flow in your legs.
  • Your body needs to deliver more oxygen & blood to both you & your growing baby. Your body creates 50% more blood & your heart works 30% harder during pregnancy.
  • At 12 weeks the placenta is formed and takes over to deliver essential nutrients from maternal blood flow through the umbilical cord to your unborn baby. For this reason good blood flow is vital to the growth and development of your baby. To learn more about the role of the placenta and the importance of blood flow to baby you can read more in our blogs.
  • Studies have found that if you sit or stand for 4 hours or more, circulation can be compromised.
  • Postpartum fluid retention is still common, even months after birth. The extra fluid volume that occurred during pregnancy and in preparation for birth, can still exist within the tissues in the body.
  • Women who have been induced will also have fluids introduced via the hormone and saline drips that are absorbed into the body. The excess fluids in the body result in swelling & puffiness.
  • The additional fluid can be excreted through your sweat and urine. Movement and improving blood flow and circulation is also important to assist the removal of waste fluids. TheRY leggings and socks with 15-20mmHg compression can help improve circulation to facilitate this process.
  • In the first 6 weeks following birth you are 3-5X more likely to develop blood clots. This is also due to the extra time recovering or sitting nursing your baby when movement is restricted.

Frequently asked

Are these suitable for travel if not pregnant?

Our socks were created with extra soft yarns and engineered to be easier to put on which is great for pregnancy but everyone can benefit. The compression socks are 15-20mmHg and suitable for flights, and anytime you may be sitting or standing for long periods of time. They are for everyone.

Are these pregnancy socks suitable for travel/dvt/etc?

Hi there. Yes our compression socks are 15-20mmHg and are suitable for travel. It is said blood circulation may be compromised if you sit for 4 hours or more so compression socks will help reduce the risk of DVT & blood clots.

What is the difference between the comforter compression socks and the rescuer compression socks?

Our Comforter Compression Socks and Rescuer Compression socks both are rated at 15-20mmHg so offer the same compression benefits. The key difference is in the weight/thickness of the sock with the Comforter Sock being a medium weight and the Rescuer sock being a lighter weight. The decision will come down to your preference for the a particular weight or design. Both are equally comfortable and soft. Many customers buy both.

Should I go by shoe size or calf size?

Please measure your calf in order to select the most appropriate size. Graduated compression is measured based on calf girth rather than the length of your foot

Can you wear these to sleep in as most of my leg issues are in my sleep?

You certainly can! They are 15-20mmhg which is the same pressure as hospital TED stockings (except much softer fabrics😊). They are suitable for all day wear and also to sleep in.

Are they easy to get on? I find it impossible to get usual compression socks on without my husbands help...

Yes they are! We know compression socks are notoriously hard to get on! We have designed these intentionally with additional stretch through key areas to make them easier to get on while retaining all the compression benefits 😊

What if I've already got the veins from just being pregnant?

Varicose veins can be a sign of circulatory problems. Our graduated compression products are designed to help improve circulation and blood flow which can help prevent the risk of varicose veins and of varicose veins worsening. The compression will help provide support to the veins and also provide you with some relief and help you feel more comfortable to manage existing varicose veins.

If you are experiencing discomfort we recommend seeing a medical professional. in more severe cases, they may recommend a higher level of compression.
